Insight: Genesis 2:15-18, 20-25; 3:1-24
These passages touch on creation, the fall of man, and the Redemption through Jesus.
God and People
God’s Sovereignty is primarily noted in the Creation of Adam and Eve. God’s establishment of obedience to Himself as God was implemented with the command to eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God’s Call, therefore, was man’s accountability to God’s Command. The result of disobedience is sin. Adam and Eve were both held accountable for their sin. However, they recognized their guilt and were capable of confessing their sin to God. The end result of sin is physical death which the human race experiences.
Jesus
The seed of the woman in Genesis 3:15 refers to Jesus. The following phrase indicates this when it says, “he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” The phrase, “you will strike his heel,” refers to the judgment, death, and crucifixion Jesus received, which was initiated by Satan as he influenced those after Jesus’ life. However, the phrase, “he will crush your head,” refers to the final judgment where Jesus will cast Satan into the [eternal] lake of burning sulfur (Revelation 20:10). Jesus, known as God the Son, was sent by God the Father to the earth to die on the cross to absolve all sins for those who would repent of their sins and trust in Him as Lord of their lives (Psalm 32:5; 1 John 1:9). Those believers would still die a physical death, but their souls would have eternal life with God (rather than the eternal lake of burning sulfur; John 17:3).
My Response
Sin: Disobeying God’s Word
Promises:
- The unity of husband and wife
- Forgiveness of sin (3:21) after confession (3:12-13)
Example: Do work and care for whatever God has assigned me
Command: Remain united to my wife
