One of the most precious responses that a Christian can have to God’s love and mercy towards them is sharing the gospel of Christ with others.1 Since we have been reconciled to Christ, He wants us to participate in reconciling others to Him.2 Below are two approaches that a Christian can use in reaching out to others.
The Narrative Approach
- Build relationships in preparation for sharing later
- Pray about who you might want to share the gospel with
- Ask them if they ever considered a relationship with God
- Share your story about how Christ came to you
- Explain Christ’s forgiveness for our sins and ask if they would like to make a confession to Christ for their sins and asking Him to be their Lord and Savior (if they are willing)
- Leave a biblical tract with them
- Offer them the free eBook, Understanding All About God, on this website, or similar literature for a new Christian
- Offer them (and spouse) an opportunity to meet other Christians, perhaps in a Church setting
The Biblical Approach
- Build relationships in preparation for sharing later
- Pray about who you might want to share the gospel with
- Ask them if they ever considered a relationship with God
- Share two verses with them:
- Regarding our sin nature: either Isaiah 59:2 or Romans 3:23, or a similar verse
- Regarding Christ’s redemption for our sins: 1 Peter 3:18, or a similar verse
- Explain Christ’s forgiveness for our sins and ask if they would like to make a confession to Christ for their sins and asking Him to be their Lord and Savior (if they are willing)
- Leave a biblical tract with them
- Offer them the free eBook, Understanding All About God, on this website, or similar literature for a new Christian
- Offer them (and spouse) an opportunity to meet other Christians, perhaps in a Church setting
- 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28) ↩︎
- 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors … (2 Corinthians 5) ↩︎
