One might ask, “How does God bring people to Himself?” The apostle Paul shared in his letter to the Romans that it is the Lord Jesus Christ “through whom we have now received reconciliation” (Romans 5:11). God has already reconciled us to Himself through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, nearly 2000 years ago. It is by faith that we obtain what God has already provided – forgiveness for our sin and an eternal state with Him. The work was done by God, but it is realized by those of us who would believe. The result of this reconciliation is that God does not count people’s sins against them upon confession and forgiveness (2 Corinthians 5:19). The penalty of sin is eternal death, but those of us who are trusting in Christ for forgiveness of our sins will experience eternal life.
