Insight: John 1:1-34
God the Father sent Jesus into the world as prophesied by Isaiah the prophet. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave.
God and People
The Word of God (Jesus Christ – John 1:14) is God from the beginning. He is the Creator. Both grace and truth have come from Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
John the Baptist was a witness to the True Light, Christ. John was the voice of one calling in the wilderness, “Make straight the way of the Lord.” John baptized Jesus and witnessed the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus.
Jesus
Jesus was sent by God the Father into the world to “Take away the sin of the world.” He is the True Light and is the Word of God (verse 14). Through Him all things were made (verse 2). Jesus gives the right to those who receive and believe His Name to become children of God (verse 12).
My Response
Sin: Disbelief that God the Father sent God the Sin into the world as a propitiation for our sins
Promise: Jesus gives the right to become children of God to all who believe in Him.
Examples:
- John the Baptist was faithful in discharging his duties as a witness to Jesus, the Chosen One (verse 34). We are to follow his lead in faithfulness.
- Jesus is the True Light to the world. We are to follow Him as a witness to the world.
Commands:
- John the Baptist: “This is the One I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’”
- “The Law came through Moses; Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (verse 17).
