Why is the Word of God (the Bible) necessary in a person’s life? Have you ever considered that? There are so many concerns that require our attention in our lives today: God, family, work, friends, hobbies, house/apartment chores/maintenance, relaxation, etc. It seems that our time is already consumed before we even think about God or His Word. However, we should consider God’s Word in conjunction with God Himself as the number one priority in our lives. Why? Because the Word of God is God. The apostle John wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God . . . The Word became flesh [Jesus Christ] and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1, 14). The reference here of the Son coming from the Father is Jesus Christ. And the phrase “The Word became flesh” indicates that Jesus Christ is the Word. Also, the phrase “the Word was God” indicates that Jesus Christ is God. It is imperative, therefore, that we prioritize God’s Word in our daily lives. In order to consider God’s Word, we must consider God Himself. We can only appreciate God’s Word if we first have a relationship with Him. God’s Word is not only the gateway to God Himself, but it allows us to understand who God is and how much He loves us. He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth to die on the cross for our sins – to pay the penalty for our sins, since we cannot pay that penalty ourselves.
