Christ, who was sent by God the Father and is God, is also interceding for us. He is the bridge between us and God the Father. When anxiety or trouble comes, He is right there watching over us and making available to us the strength and blessings we need from God the Father. This is important because the self-less act that Christ performed by dying on the cross for our sins was not just a discrete task. He did it out of love for us and continues to love us. Jesus made this claim to the apostle Peter: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:13-14). It was not just something He did 2000 years ago; He is still present with us today, looking out for us with all the divine blessings available from God the Father. The apostle Paul mentioned that Christ is at the right hand of God the Father interceding for us (Romans 8:34) and that there is nothing that can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35-39).
The sacrifice of Christ for our sin goes deeper than that. It involves our very lives in this world and also the life of our souls after we pass from this world. In other words, Christ’s sacrifice cares for our souls for all eternity. The apostle Paul made this clear: “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living” (Romans 14:8-9). Christ has us covered at every moment of our lives. Whatever we are experiencing or whatever difficulties we have, He is right there comforting us, providing for us, and at the appropriate time, delivering us. That is a great comfort to us, because we know that God has our best interests in mind both now and forever. He knows what is best for us.
