When you meet someone you love, aren’t you interested in what they have to say? So it is with our relationship with Jesus Christ. We know from John 1:1 that Jesus Christ is the Word of God who became flesh. John 1:1 also says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Since God’s Word is authoritative, it should be treated as such in our lives. Since God’s Word is authoritative, it deserves our utmost attention. Studying God’s Word can be accomplished in a number of ways, but the basic way is to read it daily while spending time in prayer. An inexpensive Bible can be found in any Christian bookstore or online. Another good method is using a daily devotion guide. One such guide can be found at inspiration.org. In fact, anyone can sign up to have the daily devotions delivered by email. It has a one-page devotion for each day of the week. There is a reference to God’s Word and then a little story talking about how that portion of God’s Word was applied to someone’s life.
