Jesus as a Teacher – An Excerpt from a Study

Insight: John 2:23-3:36

Jesus continued His Ministry by teaching other people in addition to the disciples. Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish ruling council. Jewish leaders were generally opposed to Jesus’ message and His Authority because they did not recognize Him as the Messiah. There are numerous Scripture references in both the Old and New Testaments that testify to Jesus as the Messiah. Nicodemus was an exception.

God and People

The Kingdom of God is exclusive because only believers in Jesus Christ can see it. Jesus is the only path to the Kingdom of God. God gave His Son, Jesus, so that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life.

Nicodemus inquired about being “born again.” Those who hate the Light, Jesus Christ, will not come into the Light. John the Baptist testified that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah), and he remained humble about it: He must become greater, I must become less.”

Jesus

The Son of Man, Jesus, came from Heaven and has gone into Heaven. God sent His Son into the world (believers) to save the world. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life.

My Response

Sin: Disbelieving God’s Son

Promises:

  1. Everyone who believes may have eternal life in Him (Jesus).
  2. Those who do evil will not come into the Light.
  3. Whoever lives by the Truth comes into the Light.
  4. Whoever believes the Son has eternal life.

Examples:

  1. The faithfulness of John the Baptist: in baptizing other believers, his recognition of Jesus as the Messiah, and his humility before Jesus
  2. Jesus Himself in His faithfulness to God’s calling

Commands:

  1. John concerning Jesus: “He must become greater, I must become less”
  2. The One who comes from above is above all
  3. God the Father has placed everything in God the Son’s (Jesus’) hands.
