Insight: Joshua 1:1-18
God used Moses to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. The Israelites disobeyed God and spent forty years in the wilderness. Joshua was then called by God to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, giving us an example of true spiritual leadership.
God and People
God is gracious in His provision. He sustained the Israelites as they left Egypt enroute to the Promised Land. God promised never to leave or forsake us. These accounts formed part of the Book of the Law (the Torah). God’s Word in the Torah, when obeyed by the Israelites, would allow them to be prosperous and successful. Like Moses, God inspired Joshua to lead the Israelites.
Jesus
In as much as Joshua was chosen to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, Jesus was chosen by God the Father to lead us into a personal relationship with Himself. The result of this is eternal life with Jesus our Lord.
My Response
Sin: Disobeying God’s Word and not meditating on it day and night
Promise: God will never leave or forsake us.
Example: Like Joshua, we are to take God’s Direction and motivate and encourage others.
Commands:
- Be careful to obey all of the Law
- Be strong and courageous
- Do not be afraid or discouraged
