The Word of God is Authoritative

Paul, Silas, and Timothy later wrote these words to the church at Thessalonica: “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Is it possible, then, that God’s Spirit did influence these writers? Jesus instructed the disciples that “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26). So it is not a man-made concept that human authors decided that they would claim their words were God’s, Jesus Himself indicated that these authors would write as they were led by the Holy Spirit. Even King David, nearly a millennium earlier, confided in God’s Word: “And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times” (Psalm 12:6). This purification speaks of God’s Word as holy, perfect, and without error. They cannot be words which originated with human thought.
