Having attended a non-denominational Bible-based church for nineteen years, I realized that there must be more to having faith in Jesus Christ than worshipping Him and sharing Christ with others at a personal level. After all, Jesus shared the Good News about Himself with not only those He knew personally, but with many He did not know from a human standpoint. He even taught His disciples to go out and share this news with others they did not know (Luke 10:1-2). If Jesus and His disciples could extend themselves to others they did not know, then so can we. In fact, in the aforementioned Bible verse, He commissions us to do so. There is a great day coming when Jesus will return again. But for many it will be a day of gloom. Like in the days of Noah, people will be going about doing their business mindless about God, and then the door of the ark will shut. Where are the heralds in our generation? Who will share with the unaware stranger about sin, judgment, and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross to save them from eternal hell?
This 207-page eBook was adapted from the author’s doctoral thesis on evangelism. The research question was: What are the similarities and differences between churches in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the evangelism as practiced in the New Testament by Jesus Christ, His disciples, and the apostle Paul, and how can churches in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island focus more on New Testament evangelism? This question was then decomposed into the following claims made by the author:
- Churches in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island are not following the biblical mandate for evangelism.
- Most churches in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island do not understand the theology of New Testament evangelism.
- The cultural setting for churches today in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island is vastly different than that of the Middle East 2000 years ago.
The author then sought to either prove or disprove these claims based on the following sections in the book:
- An exhaustive exegesis on evangelism
- An in-depth literature review on evangelism
- Interview results from five churches regarding evangelism
